Nico is a blacksmith by trade, and Daphed's older brother. Therefore Bill'bobjo is his ancestor as well. While Bill'bobjo passed his magic on to Daphed in simple spellcasting, he gave it to Nico in smithing. When Nico made The Shadows, they were magic because of his forging magic.
